The album doesn't really sound like any one thing. Usually, that's not a complement. This is like the dance/electronic version of hip-hop's mix tape, but with professional production, and much better mixing and mastering. She sings in a variety of styles--well. The album sounds like a trip through time, and around the world, and without feeling contrived or "appropriating."
I guess my (I'm not going to complete this sentence). I'm currently listening. "Slow Ur Roll" is on. I just jumped up and shouted "this sh!t is hot!" So yeah, it's like that. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this album gives me all the feels. I love Ellie Goulding. This is like that, but more experimental and with a voice that has more warmth and maturity.
She has an absolutely beautiful voice. I think "beautiful" a lot, when I think of this album. The production is beautiful. The cover art is beautiful. The music videos are beautiful. And I can't pretend that it doesn't matter that she is beautiful.
Let's revisit "Today" which must be my favorite track. I understand now. It's not dance or electronic or "legit" pop. It's more like the rock that I like. The music video portrays this, as do the lyrics. It's like "lady-" Strokes, Rooney, Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse . . . . I can't wait for it to come on my Pandora stations. Is this even indie? It's like they're cheating.
Aradia "Citizen of Earth" is "on fire" (and that track's hot too).
