Millennial News: Miley never meant to start a war

Knowledge of the turbulent break up, between the formerly engaged Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, is common. This movie-perfect pairing (I cried during The Last Song) parted ways quite abruptly.  But no one (that I have access to) knows why.

Obviously, ladies love that Liam’s back on the market, and fair game (it could happen).  But we’d still like to know what made Liam jump off the Miley train, just a few stops shy of marriage station.

Only days after the announcement of their engagement, Miley gushed, “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam.” Further, she said “I think we’re both deeper than normal people—what they think and how they feel. [Liam]’s very grateful for what he has but he doesn’t let it go to his head. I’m like that too.”

Arguably, Miley is “deeper than ‘normal’ people,” but she literally let it go to her head.  Step one on the new Miley transformation list included a drastic change in hairstyles.

Because Miley’s eccentric new behavior and style began around the same time as the break up, fans and gossip blogs assumed a correlation – causation.  Perhaps, this new Miley persona forced Liam to slam the brakes. Miley’s second single, from her fourth studio album, Bangerz, “Wrecking Ball” quickly became her first number one single in the United States.  The accompanying music video is provocative – she’s naked.

The track was released shortly after the end of her engagement with Liam, and clearly

describes the deterioration of a relationship.  Two plus two must equal “screw you Liam.” No one really questioned the “fact” that “Wrecking Ball” was about Miley’s relationship with Liam, even though neither Miley nor Liam officially commented about the matter.

Over the past Mother’s Day weekend, Miley verbally attacked a nameless ex-boyfriend, during a performance of “Wrecking Ball.” She verified that the song was written to spite the unnamed ex.  Reportedly, on stage in London, on May 9th, Miley announced: “I wrote this song after somebody broke my heart, and I just wanted to say [expletive] you.” She went on to note, “I wanted to write a number one hit, something that would be on the radio — he would hear my song and will keep hearing it for the rest of his life.”

Naturally, love logic points to Liam, but Miley has since denied that rumor. She posted three consecutive tweets, four days later, stating that “what I said the other night at G.A.Y. had nothing to do with Liam…” and “this isn’t something I want being spread around.” Miley explained she was just having a little fun: “I never want hateful things being said about those I care about…I was just tooooo turnttttt up.”

Liam remains frustratingly tight-lipped about his split with Miley, despite the constant barrage of related questions.  However, shortly after the opening of Catching Fire, in an interview involving the entire cast, supposedly pertaining only to production-related issues an interviewer slipped him a Miley “Mickey.”  After discussing his outstanding performance as “Gale” in the Hunger Games trilogy, the interviewer added “I know you don’t want to say much on the subject, but you must be happy for [Miley’s] recent success.”

With his charming smile and Australian accent, Liam didn’t miss a beat.  He appeared completely genuine, maintained calming eye contact, and lacked even a fidget in his chair. “Absolutely!” he laughed. “I’m extremely happy for just all, all her success.”

Liam may have found solace in the striking Mexican actress and singer, Eiza González. According to reports, Liam kissed the singer-actress by her apartment complex in Beverly Hills, barely a day after he and Miley called off their engagement.

The two ended their fling quickly - before Miley had the chance to transition from fiancé to ex-fiancé. Rebounds happen. But typically they happen sometime beyond the 24-hour break up zone.

Maybe Miley’s non-Liam Liam bash had substance after all. It looks like a full-concert call-out might be long overdue. Despite the resentment that’s clearly simmering underneath, Miley still refuses to point the official finger of blame at Liam. As always, she simply “turns up.”
